Just returned (as mentioned in my earlier post) from a few enjoyable days in Rome. Nervous of large perhaps data fees on my phone I traditionally swap to a pay as you go sim (with £20 of credit) when abroad and rely mainly on wi-fi for email etc  using hotspots in cafes etc. But that’s no good of course for Google maps or similar that require live data to update (I’m sure somebody will tell me that you can save an area in advance). Still the simple for me solution was to load the dedicated Tripadvisor App for Rome on to my Android phone and rely on the built in GPS to find my location with it’s built in  map. We could then locate restaurants or points of interest solely from the built in application. I can only say that it  worked a treat , Buon appetito.
